Our Favourates . Written by Parent Village

Dropping your child off at a school holiday programme because you have to work, is nobody’s idea of a perfect holiday. That’s why it’s so important to choose the right holiday programme for your child. One where you know they will feel included, successful, and engaged in the things that matter to them.

Here are 5 holiday programmes that we’re excited about this Autumn.

1. Holiday Art Classes with Creative Matters

Is your child a budding artist? Or just loves getting messy and creative with a range of materials? Then the Holiday Art Classes by Creative Matters could be the right fit for your child. Creative Matters offer way more than your average holiday programme, they encourage individual creativity and artistic interpretation as well as time to explore and experiment with ideas and visual arts techniques.

Creative Matters offer classes in Kumeu, Herne Bay, and Kohimarama in both Week one and two of the holidays.

2. Muriwai Surf School Holiday Program

For slightly older children who love an adventure, and who want to spend some time at the beach before winter sets in, check out the Muriwai Surf School Holiday Lessons, which run 1pm – 3pm in the first week of the holidays, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

The lessons are designed for beginner – intermediate surfers, and will cover all the basics of beach safety and surfing technique. Most importantly it’s a lot of fun, and a good way to introduce your children to the wonderful world of surfing.

3. Brain Play Science and Technology Holiday Programme

If your child can’t get enough of science and technology, then foster their curiosity with one of Brain Play’s Science and Technology Holiday Programmes. These holiday programmes introduce children to a wide range of useful skills and knowledge for engaging with technology. Topics include coding, robotics, 3D printing, engineering, and much more.

Brain Play offer full and half-day programmes in week 1 and 2 of the holidays. Available in Kumeu, Upper Harbour, and Red Beach.

4. Conscious Kids Holiday Programme

Fed up with social media, television, and i-pad mania? Send your kids to one of Conscious Kids no-tech Holiday Programmes, jam packed with clean, eco-conscious, outdoor fun and excitement. This program aims to give them a break from instruction and allow them to play as they like, for as long as they like, within a framework of respect for those around them and the environment.

Programmes are available in week 1 and 2 of the school holidays in Blockhouse Bay, Churchill Park, Western Springs, Little Shoal Bay, and Meola Reef Reserve.

5. Quality time with Granny and Grandad

For many, many children, grandparents are their best example of unconditional love. If your children are lucky enough to have grandparents nearby, then a few days with Nan and Pops might be just the thing.

If you’re still on the fence then here’s a little inspiration from a loving grandma.
